We’ve been delivering award-winning social housing and public buildings for 28 years, so we know our clients' world and how to succeed within its targets and cost constraints. New build or retrofit, affordability is the key. So we combine our experience and research to give you higher quality and lower build costs.
As certified Passivhaus Designers we utilise the ‘Fabric First’ approach to reduce building life-cycle costs and fuel poverty. This, combined with the use of integrated renewables, enables us to provide a clear route to achieving nearly zero carbon / energy buildings to meet the 2018 and 2020 Building Standards.
‘Design for all’ is how we approach every project. We have extensive experience in designing for older people and those who are physically and mentally challenged. This includes drug and alcohol rehab facilities, support housing for the young homeless and sheltered housing for older people..
Community Consultation + Masterplanning
Research and Dissemination
Project leadership is the essential central role that we as architects, are uniquely qualified to fulfill. We have provided project leadership on almost every project undertaken by FBN and are experienced in traditional, design and build and partnering contracts.
We have over 10 years experience in the field of office design and workplace strategy studies. We have undertaken 20 of these studies and carried the designs through to completion for a wide variety of commercial and charitable organisations.
Our depth of experience enables us to produce innovative ideas and proposals. Over the past 5 years we have designed new low-cost, high performance timber frame systems and developed new services to advise clients and organisations on the opportunities and requirements to meet new Building Standards and enhanced KPI’s.
As pioneers of tenant participation, we have developed effective, award winning methods of communicating with communities, housing association boards and staff members. This enables effective working with local community and stakeholder groups to generate realistic regeneration masterplan programmes
We maintain regular contact with academic and sustainability institutions with regard to achieving compliance with Building Standards and the EU’s nearly zero energy building directives. This enables us to improve our services and also to disseminate our research findings via seminar presentations to our clients and other organisations such as the Glasgow Housing Forum.

Low Energy Retrofit Congress + Smart Energy Cities + Knowledge Transfer Projects
We are excited to announce that FBN have been invited by the Austrian Trade Commission in London to attend this year's Bauz Congress on sustainable building in Vienna in January.
This year's theme is very apt concerning the sustainable reuse and retrofitting of our existing building stock and will include examples in Austria as well as across Europe and North America.
Many thanks to our friends at Strathclyde University's new TIC building for hosting our lunchtime discussion group on Smart Energy Cities last week along with co-hosts, haa design and all our guests who joined us and contrubuted to a genuinely thought provoking event. We intend to develop the ideas so watch this space.
